Dr. Shinto’s career began by earning a B.S. degree from the University of California. He later earned a medical degree from the University of New York and an M.B.A. from the University of Redlands. Throughout his 20 years in healthcare, he has worked as a pulmonologist and internist, as well as serving as a leader at several companies. Prior to InnovaCare, he was the CEO and President of Aveta Inc. from 2008 to 2012. During this time, he earned the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of The Year Award. Since coming back, Kokkinides has been working to improve their programs in Puerto Rico. These two affiliates are MMM Healthcare and PMC Medicare, and both are NCQA accredited providers with a customer satisfaction rating over 90 percent. In March, Kokkinides met with President Trump to discuss increased funding and support to these programs to ensure no one is left without coverage. The combination of these programs cover over 560,000 beneficiaries, making them the largest providers on the island.

Betsy DeVos’ Generous Philanthropy

According to Forbes Magazine, Betsy and Dick DeVos have given away over $1.2 billion in their lifetime through their foundation. The couple’s strong interest in Western Michigan is apparently because over 66 percent of their donations stay in that area. A look at their largest donations shows that the couple strongly supports education which is not surprising considering that Betsy DeVos is now serving as the United States Secretary of Education.

Hope College

Hope College received $3.1 million from the Dick and Betsy DeVos Family Foundation. This small Christian college located in Holland, Michigan, strives to instill the value of living by faith in every student attending there.

Grand Valley State University

Grand Valley State University located in Allendale, Michigan, received a grant of $2.9 million from the foundation. This college is recognized by U.S. News and World Report as being one of the top universities in the Midwest. Forbes Magazine has also named it one of the best colleges in America. Spectrum Hospital Health Foundation and Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital

The Dick and Betsy Devos Family Foundation also gave $2.6 million to Spectrum Hospital Health Foundation. This program funds facilities, programs, and equipment for many Michigan hospitals. Additionally, the couple’s foundation gave another $2.1 million to the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital Foundation operated by Spectrum Hospital Health. The Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital is located in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It is their mission to provide Michigan’s poor children with more access to primary health care.

ArtPrize

The couple through their foundation has been very instrumental in getting ArtPrize started in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Over $500,000 in prize money is awarded annually. Therefore, artists from over 40 states and 44 countries have had their work exhibited in over 170 venues around the downtown Grand Rapids’ area. Dick and Betsy DeVos also give large amounts of money annually to Republican party candidates and political action committees.
